Tempo Run #1
Yesterday I did my first tempo run. Althought, I must admit that I still do not have a very good grasp on what a “tempo” run is exactly. I got a new running watch to I was able to track my time and I ran the three miles in about 30 seconds faster than my usual pace of 10 minutes / mile but I’m still not convinced that I did the tempo run correctly. Either way though, the important part is that I got the run in. Next week I am suppose to do a 35 minute tempo run. Hopefully I will figure out exactly what that means before then! guess I need to do a little research!!

All these terms can be confusing can’t they?
For me… tempo means… “almost as fast as I can run for the total distance I’m running”… that’s not really the exact definition… but for most runners (especially those of us who are not elite runners), this is a good enough definition. The idea is that you want to train your body to run the distance at a pretty fast pace. This is a little different from a track workout, where you’re running shorter distances, and so you want to run even faster.
Both are designed to help you learn to run faster… but tempo is a little bit more oriented to fast “endurance”.
Anyway… keep up the great work!
You rock!
